Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that originates from cells of soft tissue or connective tissue in the body, such as connective tissue, muscle, bone, fat, vessels and nerves. Sarcomas usually start in the bones, muscles and walls of internal organs. Sarcomas are usually divided into two main categories:<\/p>\n

1. Soft Tissue Sarcomas: Soft tissue sarcomas are sarcomas arising from muscles, connective tissue, adipose tissue and other soft tissues. This category includes liposarcomas (arising from fat tissue), leiomyosarcomas (arising from smooth muscle tissue), rhabdomyosarcomas (arising from muscle tissue) and others.<\/p>\n

2. Bone Sarcomas: Bone sarcomas are cancers that originate in the bones and usually occur among teenagers and young adults. Osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma are examples of this category.<\/p>\n

Symptoms of sarcomas can vary depending on the type and location of the cancer. Common symptoms may include:<\/p>\n

– Pain or swelling
\n– Weakness of bone or soft tissue
\n– Broken bones
\n– Movement limitation
\n– Skin discoloration or masses under the skin<\/p>\n

Sarcomas are diagnosed using imaging tests (X-rays, MRI, CT), biopsy and sometimes blood tests. Depending on the type, stage and location of the cancer and the patient’s general health, treatment for sarcoma can include a variety of modalities such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and targeted drugs.<\/p>\n
