This condition refers to an abnormal curvature or rotated position of the big toe (hallux) towards the rest of the toes. Hallux valgus can cause symptoms such as pain, swelling and discomfort in the feet.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main symptoms of hallux valgus can be the following:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. **Curvature of the big toe:** The big toe is curved sideways as a result of the toes rotating towards the others.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. **Ice Cream Cone Shape:** An enlarging bone spur (ice cream cone shape) may form at the base of the big toe and thumb.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. **Pain and Swelling:** Hallux valgus can often lead to pain and swelling around the ankle. This pain is felt on the side of the big toe and around the ankle.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hallux valgus can be associated with genetic factors, habits of wearing narrow shoes, foot shape and certain health problems such as rheumatoid arthritis. Treatment options may vary depending on the patient&#8217;s symptoms and the severity of the deformity.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hallux valgus treatment options may include<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. **Conservative Treatment:** This treatment option involves wearing more comfortable shoes, placing cushions or pads between the toes and doing ankle exercises. These can help relieve symptoms.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. **Orthoses:** Ankle supports or hallux valgus night splints can help correct the position of the big toe.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. **Medications:** Painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs can be used to relieve pain.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4. **Physical Therapy:** Physiotherapists can provide specific exercises to increase the range of motion of the toe and strengthen the muscles.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5. **Surgical Intervention:** In severe cases of hallux valgus or in cases that do not respond to conservative treatments, surgical intervention may be required.
